Cavities usually do not stay the same
When a cavity is small, it may be treatable with a straightforward filling. If it keeps growing, more tooth structure is lost, sensitivity can increase, and the tooth may eventually need a crown or root canal instead.
That is why patients are often better served by treating decay earlier rather than waiting for pain to make the decision for them.
Pain is not the only warning sign
Some cavities hurt, but others stay quiet until the problem is deeper. Relying on pain alone can create a false sense of safety, especially if the tooth has an old filling or the decay is between teeth where it is harder to notice.
Why earlier care lowers stress
Getting a cavity checked before it becomes a bigger restorative issue usually means more conservative treatment, clearer cost planning, and a much lower chance of an urgent visit later.
