Eating after a filling depends partly on what was done and how numb you still feel
Many modern fillings are set quickly, but that does not always mean it is smart to eat immediately. The bigger issue is often whether your lip, cheek, or tongue is still numb enough that you could bite yourself without realizing it.
Waiting until the numbness wears down is usually the more comfortable choice, especially for children and for larger fillings.
What is normal after the appointment
Some mild soreness, temperature sensitivity, or awareness when chewing can happen after a filling, especially if the cavity was deeper. That should gradually improve rather than get worse.
If the tooth feels too high when you bite, that can usually be adjusted, and it is worth calling instead of trying to tolerate it for too long.
When to call back
Pain that intensifies, numbness that seems unusually prolonged, or biting discomfort that does not settle down are good reasons to check in. A small adjustment or follow-up exam can make a big difference.
Clear aftercare questions are part of good restorative treatment, not an inconvenience.
